Easy Care Tips
Prevention is Key for Solid Wood Furniture
The First 30 Days
Avoid using solvents, water, cold or hot items on the furniture for the first 30 days so the finish can properly cure.
Maintain your humidity between 45%RH to 55%RH every day of the year. This will prevent your wood from cracking or joints splitting. See our Prevention note at right.
Avoid direct sunlight (blinds or curtains can be used during the day).
Cleaning Wooden Furniture:
DO NOT use wax or any polish that has any type of silicon in it. It doesn’t treat your furniture; it puts a build up on your furniture. For best results we sell a wonderful furniture polish by Trade Secret that we highly recommend.Or use a damp cloth then use a dry cloth and wipe the excess water off, following the grain.
Store table leaves in the “table storage area” or in the same humidity as the table. Avoid storing leaves in basements because the leaves may swell from the different humidity.
Protecting the Finish:
Use padding under all rough china and hot or cold items.
To prevent your solid wood furniture from cracking and joints from coming apart, your home must always maintain the humidity between 45RH and 55RH every day of the year. You can purchase a humidity guage from your local hardware store. Also please remember to never set your furniture close to a heat register and avoid direct sunlight, and always use padding for hot or cold items on your solid furniture.
